Lyft Driver Requirements

What are the requirements to be a Lyft Driver, you ask? Well the requirements to drive for Lyft may not be as complicated as you may think. Some are more obvious than others, but it is all to look out for the safety for the most important detail, the riders.

In order for Lyft to protect their riders, you must meet specific Lyft Driver Requirements. Most of you will not have any issues with meeting all of these requirements. But just to make sure, we have listed them below for you. Here is the list of Lyft Driver Requirements:

Lyft Driver Requirements
  1. First of the Lyft Driver Requirements is that you must be 21 years of age. You have to have a few years of driving experience under your belt in order to start driving people around for a living. If you are over 21, you have had some time to become a good, safe and responsible driver.
  2. With that being said, there will be a DMV check to view your past driving record. For the safety of their riders, Lyft wants to make sure only safe drivers are chosen.
  3. This is an obvious one, but must be mentioned... you have to have a proper state issued driver's license, current car insurance, and valid license plates. All of these items must be up-to-date and not expired. You will be required to show proof of these items and a picture must be uploaded in to the Lyft app to go on record under your profile.
  4. You will be required to pass a proper background check. Most jobs will run a background check on you before hiring you, so this is no different. The fact you will be driving around passengers is a safety concern, so you must pass.
  5. The next one is crucial to the way this service functions. You must have either an iPhone or an Android device. If you do not own either of these options, you will not be able to run the app on your phone. The Lyft app requires a smart phone to operate. You can add one to your phone bill for just a small additional charge depending on your cell phone provider.
  6. Last, your vehicle (if you have one) must meet Lyft standards. If you do not own or lease a vehicle of your own, Lyft has partnered with GM and can give you an option to rent one. To take a closer look at the Lyft car requirements, click here.
  7. *** Some select cities may have additional requirements than those listed here. However, these are the most common Lyft Driver Requirements. You will find out if anything additional is required from you during the application process.

So I hope this helps you understand all of the requirements to be a Lyft Driver! You may have all of the requirements under wrap, or you may have a few things to work on, but you will now have a list to check off as you go!
